Why Nigeria Should Be Wary of American Overreach
I’m frustrated by the arrogance of US officials who treat America as if it were the world government. From boasting about military might to insulting and threatening other nations, their rhetoric undermines honour and morality. In the past year, I’ve seen the US intervene in Venezuela, threaten Iran, Colombia, Mexico, China and Nigeria, and annex Greenland. Meanwhile, they ignore serious problems at home such as mass shootings, homelessness, crime and systemic racism. America was elected to solve its own challenges, not to police or dictate terms to other countries. No nation should tolerate constant threats, baseless attacks or interference in its affairs. I urge the Nigerian government to maintain limited ties with the US. We must protect our sovereignty, solve our own problems, and only partner with nations that respect international law and our interests.
