Kenya Confirms $30M Payment to CAF, Secures 2027 AFCON Co-Hosting Rights
The Kenyan government has paid $30 million to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to secure its role as co-host of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania. Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya confirmed that this fulfils all financial and institutional obligations under the Pamoja bid. Next month, officials will work on a harmonized framework for visa facilitation, coordinated tax exemptions, customs measures, and streamlined clearance procedures for all AFCON-related goods and services. This effort reflects President William Ruto’s commitment to positioning Kenya as a premier destination for global sporting events. Mvurya highlighted that sports can drive economic growth, empower youth, create jobs, and boost international prestige. He affirmed Kenya’s dedication to delivering a world-class tournament that will exceed both continental and global expectations.
