Historic Win: Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya Becomes NBA’s Second Female President in 34 Years

Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has been elected the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association. She secured 12,317 votes (47.2%), defeating SANs Lateef Akangbe and Olumuyiwa Akinboro. The election, held at the NBA National Secretariat in Abuja, saw 26,106 votes cast. It was briefly delayed by technical glitches and a cyberattack on the e-voting system, which the Electoral Committee overcame by migrating to a secure server. Badejo-Okusanya will serve from 2026 to 2028, succeeding Afam Osigwe, SAN. She is the first woman to lead the NBA since Priscilla Kuye’s term in 1991–1992. Outgoing President Afam Osigwe praised the committee’s resilience and urged unity within the Bar. He called for stronger cybersecurity measures and asked members to support the new leadership.
