Nigeria’s Men and Women Lose Round 6 Matches at FIDE Chess Olympiad
Nigeria’s men’s chess team lost 4–0 to Vietnam in Round 6 of the 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The defeat ended the team’s three-match winning run and left them with six match points after six rounds. The women’s team also lost, falling 3–1 to Austria. They remain on six match points, with two wins, two draws and two defeats so far. With five rounds left after the rest day, both teams will aim to recover and improve their final standings. Chiamaka Michelle Nwankwo has been among Nigeria’s standout performers in the competition.
