Nigeria Confirms First Ebola Case in Over a Decade as Abuja Contacts Are Traced
Nigeria has confirmed an Ebola case in a woman who recently arrived from Uganda. She developed symptoms on October 7 and was admitted to a private hospital in Abuja on October 11. She is now isolated and receiving treatment. Health authorities have identified 44 contacts, including healthcare workers, patients, caregivers and travel contacts. They are tracing and monitoring everyone who may have been exposed. The infection is linked to the Bundibugyo Ebola strain, which has no approved vaccine or treatment. The last Ebola outbreak recorded in Nigeria was in 2014, after an infected traveller arrived in Lagos from Liberia.
