China Denounces US Pressure on Cuba After Castro Indictment
China’s foreign ministry has criticised the United States for escalating pressure on Cuba. Spokesman Guo Jiakun said Beijing firmly supports Havana and opposes threats, sanctions and legal actions against the Caribbean nation. The dispute intensified after a US court indicted former Cuban leader Raúl Castro over the 1996 downing of two aircraft linked to Brothers to the Rescue, which killed four people including three Americans. China also urged Washington to cease military threats amid rising tensions under the Trump administration. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel dismissed the charges against Castro as politically motivated and without legal basis. This exchange reflects growing friction between Washington, Havana and Beijing.
