World Cup Fiasco: Senegal’s Nine-Year Team Doctor Exposed as Gynaecologist
A major controversy has rocked Senegalese football after the FSF president admitted the national side’s chief medical officer of nine years was actually trained as a gynaecologist. The revelation came late in their North America World Cup campaign and forced officials to rush in outside specialists to restore players’ confidence. The federation says players felt uneasy about the medical support and only regained peace of mind once qualified sports medicine consultants were brought in. In response, the Senegalese Association of Sports Medicine defended Dr. Abderahmane Fediore, noting he holds a specialist diploma in sports medicine and sports biology and has served without incident since 2017. The medical scandal capped a brutal week that also saw the abrupt sacking of coach Pape Bouna Thiaw and his technical staff. Senegal entered the tournament on the back of their AFCON win but exited in the round of 32 after surrendering a 2-0 lead against Belgium in extra time.
