1 / 2

On Saturday, 27 June 2026 at around 2:00 a.m., operatives of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (Imota Command) intercepted a 35-year-old suspected gun runner in Imota, Ikorodu. Residents had complained of repeated petrol thefts from parked vehicles. Acting on this intelligence, officers detained the suspect, Jelili Adeyemo, after observing his suspicious movement. A search of a linked property at No. 13 Agundugbun Street recovered two locally made long guns, three short guns, military camouflage items, knives, handcuffs, used cartridges and other weapons. The suspect confessed to supplying firearms to members of the Aiye cult group. The suspect and exhibits were handed over to the Imota Police Division for further investigation. The agency’s General Manager said this arrest highlights their commitment to combating crime under the state government’s vision and urged residents to keep sharing timely intelligence.

True, their swift coordination made a difference, and applying same patrol strategies could deter fuel thieves too.

Intercepting a gun runner at 2 a.m. seems timely, but past operations sometimes fail to deter persistent thieves and cult activities.

Sure, arrests make headlines, yet these isolated busts may offer only a temporary fix without addressing deeper community grievances.

We need clearer reporting channels and better street lighting in Imota to discourage night time theft and help neighbourhood safety corps act faster.
