Infantino Defends Proposal to Commercialise FIFA World Cup Rights Through Private Subsidiary

Infantino Defends Proposal to Commercialise FIFA World Cup Rights Through Private Subsidiary

FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended a proposal to create a private subsidiary that would manage and commercialise FIFA-owned competitions, including the World Cup. The proposal, known as FIFA Forward Enterprise, has faced global backlash over concerns that FIFA could sell stakes in its major tournaments. Infantino said it remains an optional proposal and would require approval from FIFA’s 211 member associations and the FIFA Council. According to him, the initiative could unlock more commercial revenue for football development worldwide through improved management of broadcasting, sponsorship, licensing and other ventures. He insisted the game itself would not change and that fans would benefit from greater investment in football.
