Worshippers Invoke Spirits at Olumo Rock for Safe Return of Abducted Oyo Pupils and Teachers
Traditional devotees in Abeokuta, Ogun State, gathered at Olumo Rock and other sacred sites to pray for the safe release of more than 40 pupils and teachers abducted from three Oyo State schools nearly three weeks ago. Led by Dr Omolara Fashola-MacGregor, wife of the Olu of Orile-Ilawo, the ceremony included prayers, libations and ancestral invocations. Worshippers dressed in traditional regalia called for divine intervention and justice for those behind the mid-May attack that also claimed an assistant headmaster’s life. Olori MacGregor said the cries of the captive children have reached the heavens. She urged the deities to deny the kidnappers peace until every child and teacher is returned unharmed.
