Firefighters Rescue Elderly Man and Injured Resident From Itire House Fire
Firefighters rescued a 75-year-old wheelchair user and a 42-year-old man from a fire at an eight-room bungalow on Onitire Road, Itire, Lagos. The younger man sustained burns while trying to save the elderly resident and was taken to Gbagada General Hospital. The fire also affected part of an adjoining two-storey building. The bungalow and its contents were severely damaged, while the neighbouring property recorded minor damage. The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said the blaze was brought under control with support from other emergency agencies. A preliminary assessment points to a possible electrical surge linked to negligence, although the cause has not been confirmed. Residents have been advised to avoid overloading sockets, maintain electrical installations and use qualified electricians for repairs.
