Plateau Governor Leads 36 States in ₦1.1bn Donation for Gowon’s Autobiography
At the Abuja launch of “My Life of Duty and Allegiance,” Gov. Caleb Mutfwang announced that Nigeria’s 36 states have pooled ₦900 million, with Plateau adding ₦200 million, to purchase copies of former Head of State Gen. Yakubu Gowon’s autobiography for schools. The announcement followed consultations with Vice President Kashim Shettima, who represented President Tinubu at the event. Mutfwang praised Gowon’s role in national unity, calling him “a great statesman” and reflecting on his own childhood during Gowon’s tenure. Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Head of State Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, represented by their envoys, hailed Gowon’s post-civil war reconciliation policy of “No victor, no vanquished” and his enduring symbol of unity. Top officials, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and diplomatic corps members, attended the event, celebrating Gowon’s contributions to Nigeria’s history.
