South-West Terror Surge: Why Governors and Chiefs Must Take Responsibility
Late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu set a strong example by creating the Amotekun security force. After his death, other South-West governors failed to match that commitment or launch similar initiatives. As military pressure intensifies in the North East and North West, terrorists are moving south as an escape route. They have already hit Niger and Kwara states and now struck Ogbomosho in Oyo. Ibadan and parts of Ogun State could be next. Local rulers in the South-West remain mired in supremacy disputes. They lack unified leadership to address this looming threat. Governors must prioritize security. They should allocate adequate funds and act as Chief Security Officers in their states to support the federal effort.
