Enugu City Marathon Offers $15,000 Top Prize as State Targets Sports and Tourism Growth
Enugu State says its inaugural City Marathon is part of a wider plan to revive sports and promote the state as a tourism destination. The event will feature 42km and 10km races, with Nigerian and international athletes expected to compete. The sports commissioner said World Athletics’ involvement reflects the organisers’ ambition to stage a high-quality competition. He added that the ongoing restoration of Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium is about 82 per cent complete and is expected to support future major sporting events. The 42km elite winner will receive $15,000, while the top Nigerian finisher in the category will earn ₦3 million. Winners of the 10km Nigerian category will receive ₦1 million.
