Newell’s Old Boys, Lionel Messi’s first football club, announced his death in a condolence message. The club described Jorge as a devoted supporter who played a major behind-the-scenes role in his son’s rise from youth football in Rosario to global stardom. Jorge Messi was also widely known for managing key business aspects of Lionel Messi’s career. His health had reportedly worsened in recent months, although the family had not publicly disclosed a diagnosis. He is survived by his wife, Celia Cuccittini, and their children Lionel, Rodrigo, Matías and María Sol.
