1 / 2

In a press statement to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, the Lagos State Police Command led by CP Fatai Tijani announced the arrest of three suspected armed robbers in Idimu. The operation took place at about 2:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, when patrol officers intercepted a motorcycle carrying three men identified as Abdullahi Mustapha (20), Salisu Sannusi (30) and Jamiu Sahidu (26). A search revealed a concealed machete, an army camouflage uniform, four mobile phones, a power bank, seized naira notes and a Bajaj motorcycle reportedly used in their criminal activities. Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects have been targeting unsuspecting members of the public before fleeing the scene. The suspects remain in police custody as inquiries continue. CP Tijani reiterates the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urges citizens to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

It sounds effective that they recovered weapons and stolen items, but we've seen recoveries reported before without clear follow-up on prosecutions.

Even though they nabbed suspects at 2 a.m., I'm not convinced this kind of operation will curb armed robbery long term.

Residents around Idimu should form neighborhood watches and share timely alerts with local police to prevent further armed robbery attempts.
