YABATECH Introduces ₦1m Award for Departments With No Exam Malpractice
Yaba College of Technology's School of Environmental Studies has introduced a ₦1 million annual award to encourage students to avoid examination malpractice. The initiative, called the War Against Examination Crime Award, rewards departments that record no examination infractions during an academic session. Departments are eligible when none of their students is referred to the School Examination Malpractice Investigation Committee. In the maiden edition, the Architecture and Transport Planning and Management departments shared the ₦1 million prize. The money was presented to their students' associations to promote integrity and healthy competition among students. The dean said preventing malpractice is more effective than relying only on punishment. He urged schools and government agencies to prioritise competence, practical skills and action against so-called miracle centres.
