TikToker Alleges Forced Traditional Rites After Oloolu Masquerade Video

TikToker Alleges Forced Traditional Rites After Oloolu Masquerade Video

TikToker Wasilat Olalere has alleged that she was forced to undergo traditional rites after posting a video connected to Ibadan’s Oloolu masquerade. She said she recorded security operatives and residents before the annual outing, not the masquerade itself, and deleted the video after receiving warnings. However, she said copies had already been saved and circulated. Olalere alleged that men linked to the traditional institution later took her from her shop, detained her briefly and compelled her family to provide items for a cleansing ritual. She claimed she was then forced to say on camera that she became ill and bled after seeing Oloolu. The Oloolu family secretary denied assault or coercion, saying she voluntarily sought appeasement after violating cultural restrictions.
