I was 17 when I agreed to have sex for the first time with a boyfriend I trusted. What I expected to be a loving experience quickly became painful and frightening. I began bleeding heavily, lost consciousness and was later rushed to hospital. Doctors found that I had suffered a deep internal tear and needed emergency surgery to stop the bleeding. My family reported the incident to the police, but my boyfriend denied responsibility and tried to portray me as the one who pursued him.
