Cross River Reports New COVID-19 Case, Urges Calm

Cross River Reports New COVID-19 Case, Urges Calm

The Cross River State government has confirmed a fresh COVID-19 infection and assured residents that the situation is under control. The patient is a 53-year-old Chinese expatriate who arrived in Nigeria through Lagos on March 17, 2026. He later travelled to a factory in Akamkpa Local Government Area, where mild symptoms first emerged. Samples taken at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital confirmed the case. The expatriate is now receiving care at the state’s isolation centre and is responding well to treatment. Health authorities activated contact tracing, isolation protocols and the Emergency Operations Centre once the diagnosis was confirmed. Identified contacts are being monitored daily through the 14-day incubation period.
