Pentagon Confirms Trump Ordered Protection for Nigerian Christians
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said President Donald Trump instructed the Pentagon last year to focus on defending Nigerian Christians under attack by ISIS-linked groups. Hegseth revealed that U.S. and Nigerian forces coordinated a joint operation in the Lake Chad Basin. Intelligence from that mission led to the killing of Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, ISIS’s second-in-command in Nigeria. He added that the campaign also eliminated hundreds of fighters responsible for targeting Christian communities. Hegseth described the effort as part of the administration’s broader counterterrorism work and its commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.
