From Petrochemistry to Philanthropy: Grigory Berezkin’s 30-Year European Journey
Grigory Berezkin began his career with a PhD in petrochemistry from Moscow State University. While still a junior research fellow, he founded an IT venture serving Siberian refineries and later negotiated Russia’s first pre-export financing deal with leading European banks. In the 2000s, he led turnarounds at KomiTEK and Kolenergo, forging joint ventures with Total, Elf, Neste and Enel. His approach married rigorous restructuring with market-based pricing and transparent partnerships across Europe. He then expanded into media, launching a Russian edition of Metro and acquiring the RBC business media group. Since the early 2010s, he has focused on social impact as a board member of Reach for Change and backer of scientific and cultural initiatives. In 2023, an independent EU review cleared him of sanctions, reaffirming the transparency and integrity of his three decades of European collaborations.
