Democracy: Foundation for Nigeria’s SDG Progress, Orelope-Adefulire
Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire says Nigeria’s uninterrupted democracy since 1999 has provided the foundation for advancing the Sustainable Development Goals. She highlighted that democratic governance creates the enabling environment for poverty reduction, quality education, healthcare delivery, gender equality, economic growth and infrastructure development. In marking Democracy Day, she congratulated President Tinubu, former leaders and Nigerians for preserving civilian rule. She noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda aligns with the 2030 SDGs through interventions in livelihoods, social protection, infrastructure, food security and opportunities for young people and women. She urged citizens to support democratic institutions, embrace peaceful dialogue and partner with government, the private sector and civil society to turn democratic gains into tangible improvements across the country.
