Open Heavens Devotional, July 28, 2026: Heaven Is My Home

Today’s devotional reflects on heaven as the eternal home of believers. Drawing from Revelation 21:1–11 and John 14:3, it teaches that the present earth is temporary, while God has prepared a new Jerusalem for those who remain faithful to Christ. The message encourages Christians to live with eternity in view. It says believers should value obedience, prayer, generosity and sharing the gospel above temporary worldly pursuits, because life with God will be free from sorrow, pain and death. The key point is to make every effort to live faithfully and prepare for heaven. The Bible-in-one-year reading is Isaiah 47–49, followed by the hymn “Higher Ground” and a prayer of repentance and surrender to Jesus.

How do believers balance focusing on heaven as home with serving faithfully and responsibly in the present world?

Exactly. Hope of heaven should make us more useful here, not make us fold our hands.

The emphasis on a temporary earth can be comforting, especially for Christians trying to remain faithful through difficult seasons.

Hope in the new Jerusalem is meaningful, but it should not make present responsibilities seem less important.

A practical response is to let this hope shape daily choices: faithfulness, kindness, and steady commitment to Christ.
