Ramaphosa Urges End to Xenophobia, Says Only Government May Enforce Immigration Laws

Ramaphosa Urges End to Xenophobia, Says Only Government May Enforce Immigration Laws

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned citizens against xenophobic violence and vigilante actions. He reminded South Africans that only government agencies are authorised to enforce immigration laws. In a national address, he condemned unlawful demands for identity documents and the blocking of public services. He also highlighted how some employers exploit undocumented workers with low pay and excessive hours, undermining fair competition. Ramaphosa introduced a new Comprehensive Approach for Migration Management. The plan includes tighter border control, dedicated immigration courts, biometric ID reforms, and regional diplomatic outreach to manage migration and uphold the rule of law.
