Doctor’s 30-Year HIV Journey Without Antiretrovirals: The Power of Nutrition and Exercise
A Nigerian medical doctor diagnosed with HIV in 1992 says he has never taken antiretroviral therapy. He explains that his body naturally adjusts CD4 counts to maintain balance. When his count fell to 220 in 2003, he relied on a protein-rich, balanced diet and regular exercise. His CD4 has since risen above 600 and remained stable. He urges early testing while still healthy to access care before AIDS develops. According to him, adequate protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and minerals are key to building immune cells and avoiding opportunistic infections. Speaking with a health publication, clinical haematologist Dr. Wole Banjoko affirms that regular antiretroviral treatment and clinic monitoring are vital. He adds that good nutrition, adherence to medication and reducing stigma through more accessible drug pick-up points will help people with HIV live normal lifespans. Source: Punch HealthWise
