FIFA Bans Two Former FA Presidents for Life as Eto’o Allegations Draw Attention
FIFA has imposed lifetime bans on former Montserrat Football Association president Vincent Cassell and former Maldives Football Association president Bassam Adeel Jaleel over separate financial misconduct cases. Cassell was found guilty of abusing his position, conflicts of interest and misuse of FIFA and federation funds. He was fined one million Swiss francs, while former general secretary Tandica Hughes received a 15-year ban and a 150,000 Swiss franc fine. Reports from the Maldives say he was separately jailed for embezzlement involving money meant for local football clubs. The rulings have renewed attention on allegations concerning Cameroon FA president Samuel Eto’o over funds linked to a 2023 Cameroon-Russia friendly. Eto’o has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing, and the allegations remain unproven based on publicly available information.
