Sanwo-Olu Declares May 16 Lagos Boy Child Day, Backs Review of Child Rights Law

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has declared May 16 as Lagos Boy Child Day. The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting on the review of the Lagos Child’s Rights Law 2015 and the launch of the Lagos Boy Child Initiative. Sanwo-Olu said boys should receive the same deliberate protection and support given to girls. He urged parents and leaders to address risks including sexual abuse, drug abuse and neglect, while backing programmes aimed at improving boys’ wellbeing. The proposed review of the Child’s Rights Law is expected to address emerging concerns such as online exploitation, mental health, juvenile justice and changing family structures. The First Lady said the reforms would strengthen protection for every child without reducing attention to girls’ rights.
