Arteta Promises Careful Management of 16-Year-Old Max Dowman After Arsenal Brace
Mikel Arteta says Arsenal will carefully manage Max Dowman’s development after the 16-year-old scored twice in a 4-2 Carabao Cup win over Ipswich Town. Dowman opened the scoring with a solo goal and added another early in the second half. Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino also scored as Arsenal secured a place in the fourth round. Arteta said attention around the England Under-19 international is inevitable, but stressed that Arsenal must protect him from excessive pressure and manage his workload properly. The teenager became only the second 16-year-old to score twice for a Premier League club in all competitions, following Wayne Rooney’s League Cup feat for Everton in 2002. Arsenal next face Brighton in the Premier League.
