Emir of Gumel, Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, Dies After 45-Year Reign
The Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, has died in Cairo, Egypt, where he was receiving medical treatment. He had ruled the Jigawa emirate for 45 years and was expected to mark his 46th anniversary on the throne in November. The late monarch attended schools in Gumel, Hadejia and Kano before earning diplomas in Public Administration at the Institute of Administration, Zaria. He later studied Political Science and International Relations at Ohio University in the United States. During his reign, he was known for promoting modern administrative standards while preserving the traditions of the Gumel Emirate. He also maintained an open-door approach that encouraged direct engagement with residents. A retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel, described the late emir as a father and mentor whose legacy would endure.
