Niger Delta Stakeholders Demand State-Level Pipeline Protection and Amnesty Fund Probe

Niger Delta Stakeholders Demand State-Level Pipeline Protection and Amnesty Fund Probe

Community leaders, youth presidents and ethnic reps from across the Niger Delta say the era of one contractor controlling all pipeline security must end. They warn centralisation under a single company risks repeating the Niger Delta Avengers sabotage that crippled production to 900,000 barrels per day. The forum recalled that under a state-by-state surveillance model in President Jonathan’s term, output reached 2.5 million barrels daily. They say shifting to a single contractor in 2015 led to unrest and the Avengers insurgency. They also call for an independent probe of the Presidential Amnesty Programme. Ordinary beneficiaries still earn ₦65,000 monthly despite soaring inflation, while insiders have seen massive pay hikes. Their four demands include decentralised surveillance coordinated by the armed forces, a joint oversight board, urgent Amnesty reforms and formal recognition of local leaders who protected oil infrastructure during past crises.
