Nigeria, Ethiopia Sign Agreement to Repatriate Over 100 Nigerian Prisoners
The Federal Government has finalised plans to bring home more than 100 Nigerians serving jail terms in Ethiopia under a new Transfer of Sentenced Persons Agreement. Foreign Affairs Minister Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu and Attorney General Prince Lateef Fagbemi led the Nigerian delegation to Addis Ababa. The deal covers inmates in Kaliti and Aba Samuel prisons and allows them to serve the remainder of their sentences in Nigeria. Officials say the agreement underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians abroad. They noted four prisoners died during negotiations and emphasised the urgency of repatriation. The government urged citizens overseas to obey local laws and assured that all transferred inmates will receive dignified treatment in line with international standards.
