FG Urges Media Houses to Ditch Terrorists on Front Pages

FG Urges Media Houses to Ditch Terrorists on Front Pages

The Federal Government has called on Nigerian media houses to avoid giving prominent coverage to terrorists, bandits and other criminal groups. The appeal was made during a National Security Summit in Abuja organised by the NUJ in collaboration with the DSS. Information Minister Mohammed Idris said the best editors know what not to report in the interest of nation-building. He warned that free publicity only amplifies criminal activities and weakens security efforts. He urged journalists to shift the focus to the sacrifices and successes of security personnel who risk their lives to protect Nigeria. According to Idris, a secure and peaceful nation is vital for the media industry’s survival and growth.
