Microsoft to Slash 4,800 Jobs, Xbox Faces 1,600 Layoffs

Microsoft to Slash 4,800 Jobs, Xbox Faces 1,600 Layoffs

Microsoft will cut 4,800 roles—about 2.1% of its global staff—including 1,600 positions at Xbox. The company warned of further job losses this year as it reorganises Xbox to tackle tighter margins. CEO Asha Sharma said Xbox operates at margins three to ten times lower than comparable platforms. She highlighted a severe hardware cost crunch and intensifying competition from Sony’s PlayStation and Nintendo’s Switch. Microsoft aims to reset its gaming division for stronger performance.

Teams affected by cuts will need clear communication and upskilling options to navigate transitions and maintain productivity in changing structures.
