Why Chukwu Okike Abiama and the Biblical God Are Viewed Differently
I believe Chukwu Okike Abiama should not be equated with the God of the Bible. In my view, Chukwu Okike Abiama is distinct from God the Father, often called ChukwuNna. The argument rests on theological differences. Christianity teaches that God revealed His love through Jesus Christ, His Son, and offers grace, mercy and forgiveness. Igbo traditional religious beliefs are understood differently and do not centre on Jesus Christ as the Son of God. I also question why some traditional invocations mention both Chukwu Okike Abiama and Chukwu Kere Enu Iwe Na Enu Uwa. If both names refer to the same deity, this distinction deserves further explanation. This is a theological discussion and invites respectful contributions from people familiar with Igbo traditional religion and Christian doctrine.
