Ukraine Uses Heavy-Lift Drone to Deploy Combat Robot Behind Russian Lines
Ukraine has reportedly used a heavy-lift drone to deploy an ARK-1 ground robot carrying an anti-tank mine behind Russian lines. The operation is being described as a combat use of a “marsupial” system, in which one unmanned platform carries another into difficult or dangerous terrain. The approach could help overcome the limited range and mobility of smaller drones. Ukraine has also tested drone motherships, ground robots that launch FPV drones, and unmanned boats that serve as floating launch platforms. Ground robots are increasingly being used to move supplies and evacuate wounded soldiers from exposed positions. Ukrainian developers say the wider goal is to reduce troops’ exposure to drones, mines and direct fire, while combat versions with heavier weapons continue to be tested.
