UNIOSUN Lecturer Selected for Harvard’s 2026 Global Health Fellowship
Dr Olabanji Ahmed Surakat, Acting Head of Animal and Environmental Biology at Osun State University (UNIOSUN), has been admitted into the 2026–2027 Takemi Fellowship in International Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Surakat is a public health parasitologist and entomologist whose work focuses on neglected tropical diseases and malaria. His research has supported onchocerciasis elimination programmes in Nigeria, Rwanda, Ghana, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The remote fellowship will involve seminars, mentorship and collaboration with global health researchers, while allowing him to continue his teaching and research duties at UNIOSUN. The university said the opportunity could strengthen its international research links and public health capacity.
