INEC Appeals Court Ruling, Seeks Stay on 2027 Election Guidelines
The Independent National Electoral Commission has taken its case to the Abuja Court of Appeal. It wants the Federal High Court’s decision overturned and its execution stayed. Last week, the Federal High Court in Abuja struck down part of INEC’s directive requiring parties to submit membership registers by May 10, 2026. The Youth Party challenged the shortened timeline under the Electoral Act 2026. In its appeal notice dated May 25, INEC, through Chief Alex Izinyon SAN, asked the appellate court to set aside and suspend the lower court’s order pending the outcome of the appeal.
