Katsina Police Nab Shoplifter, Recover Over N10 Million in Stolen Goods

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 27-year-old Hadiza Ibrahim for allegedly stealing merchandise worth over N10 million from Green House shopping mall. The command’s spokesperson announced the arrest in a statement issued on March 27, 2026. Officers tracked the suspect after mall security reported a series of shoplifting incidents on March 4. CCTV footage showed her taking items from several stores. She was apprehended at the scene and taken into custody for questioning. A follow-up search of her residence yielded 74 shoe sets, 37 veils, 67 sportswear sets, 54 children’s outfits, 123 pairs of caps, 315 sets of socks, wrappers, handbags, cartons of groceries, perfumes, soaps, jewellery and cooking seasonings. Owners have since identified their goods. Hadiza confessed to the offences and has been charged in court. The Commissioner of Police praised the team’s efforts and urged shop owners to heighten security. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

While the recovery is praised, are we celebrating the right thing? The real issue is why malls still lack basic security measures years later.
