VP Shettima Urges Tapping Agriculture and Mariculture to End Poverty in Nigeria
Vice President Kashim Shettima told the Agric, Development and Investment Summit in Abuja on July 15 that Nigeria has no business being poor. He highlighted that in 2025 Indonesia earned $25 billion from crude palm oil exports—surpassing Nigeria’s oil revenue despite a smaller output. Shettima pointed to the Niger Delta’s potential for mariculture, including salmon, tuna and lobster farming. He said the nation can harness these resources to become one of the richest in the world. “Certain parts of this country are like fertile fields where money can grow,” he said, urging investors and policy makers to develop agriculture and fish farming as key drivers of wealth creation.
