Court Slaps ADC Chieftain With N100m Penalty Over Bias Claims Against Judges
Mr Nkemakolam Ukandu, National Welfare Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, must pay N50 million each to Justice John Tsoho and Justice Peter Lifu for accusing them of bias. Justice Salim Ibrahim issued the order after the judges’ counsel made an oral application in the Federal High Court. He earlier struck out Ukandu’s case for lack of diligent prosecution. Ukandu had sued the National Judicial Council, Justice Tsoho and Justice Lifu over alleged corruption, abuse of judicial powers and disobedience to court orders. Neither he nor his lawyer appeared in court after the matter was assigned. The court directed that the total N100 million be paid within 14 days. The original suit arose from an internal leadership dispute in the party.
