Shettima Urges States to Accelerate Reforms and Access $750m SABER Fund
Vice President Kashim Shettima asked state governments to tap the $750 million World Bank–assisted SABER programme. He made the call during a stakeholder meeting in Abuja on Tuesday. Shettima said SABER will create a more predictable and transparent business environment. He highlighted that it can attract domestic and foreign investment, boost private-sector confidence and lower the cost of doing business. The vice president noted the reforms would expand digital and physical infrastructure, improve access to land and drive subnational economic growth. He directed the PEBEC director-general to seek a one-year extension so states can fully utilise the opportunities. Shettima added that optimising SABER implementation is crucial for realising Nigeria’s one-trillion-dollar economy drive. Senior officials also urged stakeholders to address bottlenecks and meet all disbursement-linked indicators.
