Excursion to England: Cultural Imperialism or Genuine Education?
I was shocked when the school asked parents to fund an excursion to England. Our children barely know Nigeria’s geography, yet we’re exporting them for what looks like cultural indoctrination. This program only fosters elitism and wastes scarce resources in our tough economy. It alienates students from their peers and replaces Nigerian values with a foreign veneer. True education should teach service and community pride. A field trip through Lagos slums, followed by student projects on sustainable neighborhoods, would be far more valuable. I will protest this vanity project to the Ministry of Education if it continues.
