Nigeria and US Strengthen Defence Partnership to Combat Terrorism
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff has affirmed a renewed commitment to deepen military cooperation with the United States. This follows a visit by the US Assistant Secretary for African Affairs to Defence Headquarters in Abuja. The partnership will focus on intelligence sharing, counter-terrorism operations, military training and capacity development. Both sides highlighted the importance of joint efforts to tackle violent extremism, organised crime and emerging regional threats. Nigeria’s Armed Forces will continue to uphold professionalism and regional stability. The US delegation praised Nigeria’s role in West African security and pledged ongoing strategic dialogue and defence assistance. The talks also explored new areas for collaboration in pursuit of lasting peace and security across Nigeria and the wider African continent.
