Love Wisely: Why Men Should Avoid Overextending Themselves in Relationships
Being intentional in a relationship does not mean being stingy, distant or unwilling to care for a partner. It means refusing to prove love through spending, gifts, constant availability and sacrifices that exceed your real capacity. If I earn ₦300,000, I should not live as though I earn ₦3 million just to maintain an unsustainable lifestyle. Dates, transfers, trips and gifts should come from genuine choice and financial capacity, not fear of losing someone. My savings, family duties, health and long-term plans should not suffer because I am trying to impress a partner. I can love deeply without becoming emotionally dependent. Healthy partners should have room for work, friends, family, personal interests and time apart. I should also take time to understand a person's values, boundaries and behaviour before taking on the responsibilities I would reserve for a long-term spouse. Love should be genuine, sustainable and proportional. I can be generous without becoming reckless, committed without losing my identity, and affectionate without making a relationship the centre of my entire life.
