Barcelona Consider Luis Suárez After Reportedly Dropping Osimhen Pursuit
Barcelona are considering Sporting CP striker Luis Suárez as a fallback option if they cannot agree a deal for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez before the transfer deadline. The Spanish club reportedly made Álvarez their first-choice replacement for Robert Lewandowski, but Atlético Madrid insist the Argentine is not for sale. Barcelona had also explored a move for Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen but reportedly withdrew because of the transfer fee and wage demands involved. Suárez, 28, joined Sporting CP from Almería in 2025 and has an €80 million release clause. The Colombian has previous La Liga experience with Real Zaragoza, Granada and Almería, where he scored 31 goals and supplied eight assists in the 2024/25 season. If he joins Barcelona, he would become the third Luis Suárez to play for the club, after Spanish great Luis Suárez Miramontes and former Uruguayan star Luis Suárez.
