FCMB Plans AI Farm Advisory Services in Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo
FCMB says it plans to expand its agritech strategy with AI-powered advisory tools that can support smallholder farmers in Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. The tools are expected to provide real-time guidance and improve farmers’ access to finance and agricultural support. In its Agritech Alumni Impact Report for 2018 to 2026, the bank said it will continue backing AgTech firms that use weather data, soil intelligence and USSD platforms across the agricultural value chain. It noted that agriculture contributes about 24 per cent of Nigeria’s GDP, while only six per cent of African farmers have access to formal credit. FCMB also outlined plans for climate-resilient financing, bundled insurance and animal healthcare solutions. The bank said it aims to help Nigerian agritech startups expand into markets including Uganda, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia and Kenya.
