CDHR Demands Reversal of Proposed King’s College Concession
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights has urged the Federal Government to suspend and reverse the reported concession of King’s College, Lagos, to the King’s College Old Boys’ Association. The group said a September 4, 2026 correspondence from the Federal Ministry of Education indicated that the school would be handed over to the alumni body, while federal funding would stop six months after the transition. CDHR raised concerns about the legal basis, financial terms, governance structure and impact on students, teachers and other workers. It warned that the arrangement could lead to higher fees, reduced access for less privileged students and a wider push to commercialise Federal Unity Schools. The organisation called for the full agreement to be made public and for broad consultations with parents, students, unions, education experts and civil society groups before any decision is implemented.
