Remembering Prof Albert Alós and the Early Growth of Lagos Business School
I first met Prof Albert Alós at a Victoria Island cocktail hosted by T.Y. Danjuma and Daisy Danjuma in 1993. Corporate leaders gathered to discuss endowments, faculty support and other funding needed to establish the Lagos Business School. As an editor at the time, I briefed Lade Bonuola on the meeting and The Guardian on Sunday offered publicity support at no cost. Photographs of endowment-cheque presentations helped to encourage more donations from companies and individuals. Prof Alós, who came to Nigeria from Spain in 1967 and later became a naturalised Nigerian, helped build Lagos Business School into a leading institution. He also served as the inaugural Vice-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University. He died on September 7, 2026, shortly before his 87th birthday.
