F1 Season Hit as Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix Face Cancellation
The Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grands Prix set for next month may be called off due to the escalating conflict in the Middle East. A formal decision is expected by the end of the weekend, as freight shipments must begin imminently. With no resolution in sight between the US/Israel and Iran, organisers fear for the safety of teams and staff. If cancelled, the season will drop from 24 to 22 races, costing F1 over £100 million in hosting fees. Bahrain was due to run on 12 April, with Jeddah the following weekend. Alternatives in Portugal, Italy and Turkey were explored but dismissed due to time constraints and fee negotiations. The calendar break would then stretch from the Japanese Grand Prix on 29 March to Miami on 3 May.
